Electrolysis hair removal is a safe, FDA approved and medically proven since 1875 method of permanent hair removal. Electrolysis hair treatment can be applied to just about any facial hair and any body area and is effective on all skin types and hair colors. From the top of your head to the tips of your toes we can treat it.
Electrolysis LED Light Therapy is a simple procedure that is performed by inserting a thin filament into the hair follicle opening and releasing a short burst of electrical current in order to destroy the hair growth cells in the papilla and bulge area of the follicle.
Here at Infinity Electrolysis of Central CT using the latest, most up to date epilator machine possible there are several options of current to choose from for treatment. We will determine what will best work for you at your free consultation appointment.
Temporary methods of hair removal will often stimulate more unwanted hair growth by feeding the cells with a healthy blood supply with every pull of the hair.
Laser hair removal is hair reduction, it can help with very large body areas to treat initially but it is not permanent. Electrolysis is often used after Laser so that while the hair grows back in it is treated with Electrolysis and the growth cells are destroyed in the Anagen Phase (growing phase) which is when the cells are the most active.
Tweezing, waxing, threading, sugaring can distort the follicles and create hyperpigmentation of the skin; dark spots and scarring.
The destruction of the active cells during electrolysis treatments will permanently stop that follicle from being able to produce a new hair. Permanent hair removal does take time as our hair grows in phases over a period of time, after your initial clearing and if you commit to coming in for consistent appointments you will be Hair Free!
Hair growth cycles consist of 3 phases through a period of years, Anagen, Telogen and Catagen. Any hair on the body that remains above the surface of the skin eventually sheds and then begins to grow and reproduce again. The hair growth cycle can be anywhere from 6 to 14 weeks, depending on hormones, heredity, and your own personal cycle of growth. As the hair grows in these are “New Hairs” and are in the “Anagen Stage”, the most cell activity happens in this stage and Electrologist aim to treat during this stage as it will help in treating the follicle in the most active stage possible. Your consistency with your appointments will help with this.
Since no two people are the same each case will not be identical, each client will respond differently to treatment. Factors that influence treatment are density of hair, coarseness, causes of excess hair and commitment and consistency of appointments.
During treatments there will be a constant, gradual decrease in growth of the hair until it has all been permanently destroyed.
The first signs that the Electrolysis treatment is working towards permanent hair removal is the hair growth becomes softer, finer and lighter in color. You will see and feel the difference throughout the course of your treatments.
Someone who has previously tweezed, waxed, threaded or sugared or have used other temporary methods of hair removal may have compounded the problem and may require more treatment than those who have never used temporary removal methods. Please stop plucking your hair out, if you must do something use a shaver or a depilatory cream. These methods don’t feed the cells to grow even more.
Most clients find that in the beginning weekly or biweekly appointments work best, eventually as the cells in the follicle are destroyed more time can be left between your appointments. Towards the end only needing touch up appointments until permanent hair removal is achieved. Again the more closely you adhere to a treatment schedule, consistency of your appointments is key, the sooner your will become hair free.
The most recent technology has made electrolysis more comfortable than ever before! Electrolysis is the process of destroying the cells in a hair follicle by a small amount of electric current, so some discomfort is expected. Most clients say it feels like a warm sting or snap of a rubber band sensation. Another option for treatment is the method of using Galvanic current which creates a chemical reaction in the hair follicle, by converting the tissues saline (skin hydration is important here) into sodium hydroxide (Lye) which in turn destroys the cells in the follicle. This method feels like a slow build up of heat. There is also the Blend method which combines the two standard Electrolysis and Galvanic current. With the treatment equipment used here at Infinity Electrolysis of Central CT there are also many other options in between these and combinations of these methods to pick from to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
The equipment we use is the most up to date available, the Apilus xCell 27.12 MHz machine has set a new standard for treatment. It has raised the bar for efficiency, speed and comfort to a whole new level. With 10 options of exclusive techniques, I will find one that works best for you and your comfort level.
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Some people fall asleep during treatment, some find it helpful to take an over the counter pain reliever about 45 minutes prior to treatment.
A good rule to remember is that if the treatment you are receiving that particular day falls within the center-line of your body, it will be more sensitive, this includes the center of the upper lip and genitals.
Besides taking an over-the-counter pain reliever you can also apply a topical numbing cream like Lidocaine 4% 1 hour prior to treatment. You apply the cream to the area and cover it with saran wrap in order to activate the cream while you are waiting to arrive to your appointment. If the area is very sensitive, you can ask your physician to prescribe a stronger percentage numbing cream.
Do Not Wax, Pluck, Sugar, Thread or use any other method of temporary hair removal that removes the hair from the Root. Shaving, trimming or using a depilatory cream to remove the hair from the surface is okay.
For your appointment day you will have to stop using these methods as well at least 2 or 3 days beforehand as I will need enough length in order to grab the hair with a pair of tweezers. As long as the hairs are popping out and showing I can treat them.
*Removing hair by the root stimulates blood supply to the area therefore feeding the hair growth cells we are trying to destroy. When the hair regrows , it comes in thicker and deeper making it more difficult to reach permanent hair removal.
Depending on skin type and sensitivity, some clients may experience redness, slight swelling, bumps or feeling warm to the touch immediately following treatment that typically resolves itself within an hour or two. Post treatment care will be discussed with you during your free consultation. Occasionally minor scabbing during the healing process or miniscule white heads will appear, they fall off quickly please do not pick at these or you can increase the chances of scarring. Let the area heal on its own, keep it clean without using any harsh chemicals or vigorous scrubbing. Be gentle to your skin after treatment, you can apply Aloe or antibiotic ointment if anything is bothersome.

Do Not Touch-Think Bacteria...it’s everywhere. It can cause you to break out, try to keep your hands away from the area. Even when applying Aloe or Antibiotic ointments, wash your hands and use a cotton ball or small gauze pad.
Apply-Aloe-works amazingly in the healing process but also sooths the area if it feels hot or sore. Wash your hands and apply with cotton ball or gauze. Purchase an aloe that has no other scents as these can have hidden chemicals.
Apply-Antibiotic Cream-Bacitracin, Polysporin or any antibiotic cream can be applied the night of the treatment. These medicines are designed to kill bacteria on your skin and prevent infections, they can be used at the recommended dose over the course of the next few days during the healing process.
Do Not Scratch or Pick-It is normal for your skin to feel a little itchy for a couple of days, especially if you had a large area worked on or a sensitive area like the upper lip. This is simply inflammation and a part of the healing process. Bacteria under your nails can affect the healing process and cause breakouts. Use Aloe as it can be very soothing, or a cold pack/ice can feel great. If any of the follicles develop a scab in the healing process, Do Not Pick at any scabs, that is your follicle healing, if you pick a scab off you are risking causing a scar. It is important to let the scabs fall off themselves.
Stay out of Direct Sunlight-Don’t go laying in the sun for 24 hours after treatment as it can cause pigmentation of the skin. Using sunblock daily will save your skin!
Do Not Workout-for 24 hours, Excessive sweating can cause bacteria to enter the open follicles and can cause breakouts.
